A Gloomy Day in Tulsa

It's been one of those days today, cold, windy, and overcast.

It's fitting weather for the news I have to deliver.

I got the call from Dr. Langerak's nurse, the PET Scan wasn't good. It showed "hyper-metabolic" activity in the area of concern. The good news is that this still could be an inflammation or an infection from the surgery, the bad news is that it could be cancer again. Monday afternoon I meet with Dr. Langerak. Prior to my appointment he will be talking with Dr. Einhorn/IUPUI to discuss a plan to determine what this is in my pelvis. I probably have a needle biopsy to look forward too. Pardon my French, but this was like a kick in the nuts! I'm a little desensitized to it nowadays but it still hurts. It hurts even more to talk to people about it. I could barely stand to call my parents and deliver the news. But I'm tough and I've been through it before. If it is cancer I'm ready for whatever I have to do to kill the s.o.b.

I'll let everyone know what the plan is and what the results are throughout this process.

Peloton Project - LAF Fundraising Update

I am also still raising money to support cancer survivors via the Lance Armstrong Foundation. I've been kind of distracted so far this year and I'm pretty low on contributions. So if you could pass this link along to friends or family that would be interested in supporting a worthy cause I would appreciate it.

Deja Vu All Over Again

This is all starting to remind me of my first diagnosis when I spent months (literally) waiting to find our what was in my prostate.

I found out what the 2nd radiologist had to say about my slides:

He agreed that the hypodense tissue is larger than it was in Jan. He was unable to classify it, but thought it looked like a cyst. He recommended the PET and a follow up MRI if necessary to get better detail of the tissue.

Ok, here's the current plan:

Tomorrow afternoon - PET Scan, my Doctor should get the results by cob Friday
Monday afternoon - Appt with Dr. Langerak to review the results*

*Unless they decide they want a MRI as well and set a new appointment to review the results of both tests.

A good article about the recent Bankrupcty Law

I wish everyone would read this article and think about the impacts the recent bill will have on cancer survivors.

PET Scan scheduled

My PET scan will be 4:00 PM Thursday - Results probably next week sometime. It'll be hard not to focus on this over the weekend.

Update (Sort of) pt. 2

Well, no word yet on what the second radiologist thinks about the slides. But Dr. Langerak went ahead and ordered a PET scan regardless. I should hear from them today regarding the scheduling of the scan.
